Original Text: (From Josh.)
When tweaking your character, don’t overlook your backstory. Remember, your parents can be anyone you choose. The only limit to your power is your own imagination and everyone else’s wilingness to be royally screwed.
Shamus Says:
Something I could never do in DMotR, and almost never get to do with my screencap comic: The visual punchline.
Shawn Says:
Early on, a few people thought that xXKillStealer69Xx’s dad had a gag around his mouth, before they saw me draw that giant exaggerated smile again.
I just love how Josh’s parentage makes absolutely no sense.

Well… if one of Josh’s father’s wifes were to be a hermaphrodite, there might just be that tiny, tiny chance…
No, wait, then we’d need to alter someone’s method of reproduction at a biological level.
Unless… how specific are the rules involved in ogre/dark elf child bearing?
Easy enough if the mother was human. If she released two eggs (rare but possible) during ovulation, one being fertilised by an Elf, one by an Ogre. Then the two eggs merged to form a biological chimera (rare but possible) and ta da, half human and elf, and half human and half ogre. This is fantasy, where everyone is a statistical outlier to begin with anyway.
This being an obvious joke aside, wouldn’t it also work if, let’s say, a human and a dark elf have a kid, which will be one part human and one part dark elf. Than that person has a kid with an ogre (Let’s not get into the details on this one) and wouldn’t logically that child have parts of human, dark elf AND ogre DNA in it? (And a bag of identity issues to go with it too)
When I first read this one, I laughed a lot by the contrast between the tension in the table and the visual punchline. Then i laughed a bit more noticing the thumbs up the father does. And then I laughed a LOT more when I realized that two men and one woman was the needed setup to make things work, not to women and a man.
Man, I want the last frame in 1280×800 wallpaper!
“Fear will keep the ocal systems in line. Fear of xXKillStealr69Xx.”
Also, I still love the name.
Dang, should be ‘local’. Can I get an edit button?
Well, Gilgamesh was 2/3 god and 1/3 man…. *infinite sex theory*
As someone pointed out once, having a half Ogre / half Human character have a baby with an Elf would produce a baby that was 1/4 Ogre 1/4 Human and 1/2 Elf.
Josh isn’t 1/2 Human, 1/3 Ogre, and 1/3 Elf… he’s HALF of each. He’s a person and a half.
Cheating bastard.
Ah, but the farther you go back into his ancestry the more closely you can approximate 1/3. Say his great-great-grandparents are five dark elves, five ores, and six humans. That’s pretty close.
It would pretty much have to be a deliberate breeding program. He’s got to be the minion of some long lived dark lord.
I think we had this exact same reaction back in ‘07, where people tried to find a way for Josh’s ancestry to make sense. Regardless, it’s pretty tricky to make someone 3/2
Half human/Half Dark Elf. Then a failed attempt to turn into an ogre gives him half the features of an ogre as well. Hence half human/half dark elf/half ogre.
I remember several years ago at a regional fair near Waco, Texas, one of the side show attractions was the pig boy’s remains. The sign claimed he was 37% human, 63% pig! I don’t know if they pulled these out of the air, did some sort of detailed genetic analysis, or were trying for 1/3-2/3 and got the math wrong, but I do give them credit for adding up to 100%.
That was an awesome punchline.
Man, this is another good comic for the drinking game.
Gag? Bwahaha! I totally only ever saw a huge S.E. grin. Thank you for point out to be that it could look like a gag to some people with a more twisted mind than I have. Now… what does this imply about his ‘thumbs up’, I wonder?
I personally agree with Leonid: We need wallpaper. Now.
Well, Gilgamesh the King of Heroes was two-thirds god and one-third mortal human. I don’t think it’s repeatable, though.
I assumed the picture showed his grandparents. If they had a half-ogre and a half-dark elf baby and those in turn had a baby together it could count as equal parts ogre, dark elf and human thanks to the magic of inbreeding.
Which might also explain some other things about his character. . .
