Hey! That can’t be good!

On the plus side, today’s comic features the return of Eva, Toby, and Mysterious Villain #1.

So, it’s a new month, that means you should run to topwebcomics.com and vote for Clockworks. While you’re there, you may want to vote for Red Moon Rising and The Becoming.

There’s a new vote incentive up, a jumbo version of panel 2.

So, the war last month with Red Moon Rising didn’t go so well.  March started well, I declared war, you guys all rallied around and we were totally kicking her ass.  Then, she went and told her fans about it, and they rallied around her and voted a bunch!  Totally unfair.  So the new plan is to declare war with Rose and not tell her.  So guys, no one let her know that we are still and always at war.

Went to the Penny Arcade book signing event last night at the Mad Art Gallery.  I learned what Kris Straub smells like, briefly met Jerry and Mike, got my book signed, and had Mike draw dicks in my friends’ copies.  You can see evidence of the latter here. (Warning, cartoon penis, your work may frown on that sort of thing.)

That’s about it for today.  No April Fool’s Day jokes, unless you count the video above.

    Sorry, but when I saw the last panel I couldn’t help but think;

“How you do like your Troll? Lightly grilled or well roasted?”

  2. The Letter J says:

This is just sick. I LOVE this page. Can’t wait for Tues!

  3. Shawn says:

    Addenda:

1: I should note that even though Rose won the March War pretty solidly, Clockworks came out about a dozen spots ahead of where we were in February.

2: If anyone is really bored, the wiki could use some updating. Recent comics have shed some light on magic, religion, Mysterious Villain #1, and I’m sure other things.

  4. Shawn says:

    J – thanks!

  5. Shawn says:

Oh yeah, yesterday Rob Donoghue wrote about Clockworks over on his blog. Short version, he liked it:

  6. Amy says:

ooh – fire! :D (Though I’m sure our resident heroes are not so happy about the flame thrower…)

  7. gedece says:

Hehehehe, Panel 2 made me think “ahhhh, So many options, so little time”.

Great work in resolving the static moment of surprise with the flowing flame attack.

  8. Scotticus says:

    Flamebot rules!!!!

  9. stormwell says:

Wow, that was a big jump.

I’m sure when I saw it an hour ago the vote counter was 111. O.o

  10. Shawn says:

That’s the advantage of having a comic come out on the first. We have a day head start on all those suckers with MWF comics.

  11. Eddy says:

I don’t know why, but the little sound effects (like “chugga chugga”) I always find amusing.

  12. syhd says:

I like the way the bots are hiding around the corner in the first panel. You can almost hear one going “tee hee!”

  13. Shawn says:

That was a late addition. I realized they had to come from somewhere, and liked the idea that the characters are just tired enough to not notice the half dozen or so giant clanking clockbots lurking ahead of them.

  14. dredogastus f says:

Ophelia! Can I have some water? Please!

  15. Jericho says:

    Squeeeeeeeee!
My wish has finally been granted! and with exponentially more awesome deliverance!

I also enjoyed the hiding of the clockbots in panel 1.

  16. Stubby says:

Troll en flambe :D I love it.

I too enjoyed the lurking clockbots in the first panel…you can almost hear the evil chuckles

  17. Nicole says:

    Gah! O_o Look out, Eva!!!!

    Someone’s gonna lose their eyebrows!

  18. Pandarsenic says:

Any other day, the best thing in my day would be visualizing all those robots jumping out at once to ambush them.

Today, the best thing in my day is the new Dwarf Fortress release. Sorry. At least I can guiltlessly drop both you and RMR votes now.

  19. Flo says:

woah, those firebots are so awesome! kinda like the robots in the golden army, but more cooler.

I love the second panel; just so many different robots is so cool. :D

  20. Filtiarn says:

Remember kids: always stay alert on the road. You never know when a flamethrower-happy band of killer robots will jump out at you.

  21. Rashaki says:

    Yay! Toothy!

  22. >B says:

When Rob wrote about how this comic captures the best of all its ingredients, and encases them in a sugary suspension of the visual elements of steampunk, these three panels are what he was talking about.

So many things about this page speak to how you have made the genre a part of Clockworks, and made Clockworks a part of the genre. Its not about the robots (those are nice of course) it the lines, the shadows, the light, the angles… its very strong work.

I don’t know if I have to vocabulary to talk about it. Might be time to read ‘Understanding Comics’ again, and take another stab at it.

  23. Shawn says:

    Thank you very much.

  24. Rose says:

    I’m on to you, Gaston.

  25. Shawn says:

What? There’s nothing to be on to me about. Nothing at all…

  26. dredogastus f says:

What does this Rose person mean? On to what? [Opens another window.] Oh! Rose does one of those brooding comics about people with dark pasts. They live tough lives that only get more perilous as they drawn into plots laid by powerful people. Well…I suppose writing plots like that could make a person kinda paranoid.

  27. Amalas says:

I was at the Penny Arcade panel at Mad Art as well. Too bad I didn’t know otherwise I would have said hi or something. Anyway, keep up the great comics!

  28. Shawn says:

Thanks! I was the guy asking what Kris Straub smelled like. :D

  29. Amalas says:

    Brilliant question, btw. =P

  30. [...] I’m pretty happy with how things went.  You may want to go back and read the whole scene again.  I tried to incorporate some humor and drama and character moments, and I think I mostly [...]
