Man, it’s cool to be in the 100s now.  A few things:

Go vote! New vote incentive is a jumbo look at today’s comic, sans word bubbles.  I’m really happy with the art on this one, and think it’s a pretty solid step forward.  Hope you guys enjoy it.

Seriously, I’m up to Mysterious Villain #4?  I have a problem.   I suppose now that we know Klaudius’s name, I’m really only at 3 Mysterious Villains, but still.

I’m pretty sure this is our first airship besides the one in grandpa’s flashback.

And finally, a belated thanks to everyone who lent a hand during Anniversary Week:

Chuck Wendig, Steam Crow, Rose Loughran, Douang Khamsitthisack, Jamie Toon, Larry Wentzel, David Patton, Carrie Harris, my mom, everyone who came out to the Anniversary Party/Art Show, and of course all of you guys and gals who read the comic every week and especially all of you who keep the comments section so lively.

See you on Friday!

That Trenchsuit there is quite classy.

  2. Amy says:

His hat and profile remind me a bit of oliver…

  3. syhd says:

Say what you will about MV#4, he does have a nice hideout.

  4. Pandarsenic says:

…. I suspect MV#4 could kill a man with his pure stylishness.

[coughs] Ahem. Sorry about that. Been waiting for a while for the airship(s) to appear in the comic. And I’m going to agree with Amy; the similarities here, and the sudden proximity of a new villain to the mysterious non-sharing of Oliver’s Tale leads me to believe there is a strong correlation between these two. Plus, this guy has the evil goatee! ooooo, how mysterious!

    My own random thoughts:

Lukov totally looks like a villain from an 80’s video game. He should be in the booklet for Double Dragon or something.

We only saw Lukov in profile in his original appearance, which is why during Ophelia and Eva’s flashbacks, I made sure to show him head on, because I knew he’d be appearing here with an eyepatch and giant scar, thanks to Thorton.

I don’t think the writing on this one is my strongest, but I think this is some of the best art I’ve done for Clockworks.

In regards to MV#4, he will for now have to remain mysterious. I can neither confirm nor deny any connection to our own mysterious hatted hero.

Agreed. This is great work. You’ve really nailed an atmospheric quality to the lighting here, and the details are great. Love the scar. :)

Good stuff as usual even with the phrase “meddling lawmen” :p

man, so many things to say about this comic. first, MV#4 looks like he’s wearing sunglasses (though it’s just his shadow), and LOOK! AN AIRSHIP! I’m excited for this hallmark of clockworks.

and Lukov looks like he stepped out of duke nukem forever (not quite 80’s though). I wonder what he smuggles.

  8. Wil K. says:

    Portrait of Lukov looks AWESOME.
I love how the scar matches up with the gold tooth and eyepatch – you can really see where Lukov got “Shlunk’d” (http://shawntionary.com/clockworks/?p=61).

  9. Nicole says:

Mysterous villain #4 looks like a friend of mine…a Candadian! Hmmm…what does it all mean? ;)

  10. J. Beatnik says:

So far we have: MV#1 is Klaudius, MV#2 is Gas Mask Ninja, a.k.a. Herbert Stavslanistov, MV#3 is the lady in the shadows, MV#4 is Goatee Hat Man! What plots abound for our heroes?! What a complicated web of intrigue have they fallen into? Join us later on this week, when Plot Thickens and Our Heroes Save the Day!

  11. Rob says:

Um… is it just me, or are MV#4’s arm’s metal?!?!

  12. galenloke says:

I have to agree, this is some of the bets art yet. Lukov especially looks fantastic.

  13. Chuk says:

Cool art, yes. I had to look at the bottom two panels a few times before I realized that it was two panels — I saw the separation line as being a continuation of Kilgore’s speech bubble and I was wondering “Why does he have a speech bubble that’s off the page?”

  14. bobbdogg says:

you can always tell the bad guys from the evil goatee and scar/goldtooth/eyepatch…very evil indeed! also wondering what evil goatee MV#4 is doing with all the unnaturals? (btw, senator…love your suit!)

  15. Capshot says:

Some of the best art I’ve seen so far, and it’s nice to get back to the current story, as opposed to flashbacks. It’s not that I didn’t like the flashbacks, I just want to see how the current plot will develop..

  16. Hobo says:

Hmm if I recall correctly you once showed us an airship a player created for this game, I wonder if this could be that very airship…

  17. Da Red Paintjob Grot says:

Mysvil4 doesn’t have a full stop at the end of his last speech bubble.

Also, keep up the good work.

  18. Nicole says:

    Gah! *bangs head on desk*

I forgot he shifted to a Friday schedule. :p

Oh, well. At least I’m the first commenter of July!
