0009: Introductions

I cast Wall of Dialogue on you!

I had a bunch of stuff I wanted to chat about today, but I don’t want to delay the comic even more.  See you on Tuesday when we (finally!) have a change of scenery!

I’m probably going to tweak today’s comic a little bit when I get home tonight. Nothing major, just refine the coloring and word placement a bit.

  2. Moisture Man says:

Might want to fix the typo in the third panel too.

  3. BarGamer says:

    Ophelia’s pose is so hot.

So… She’s joining the group until Lukov has been taken care of, right? And then she rapidly helps keep the rest of the team alive, finds some phat lewts, and finds herself a permanent member of the group? Probably be the sort to donate her share to the orphanage, or something. Sounds solid. Can’t wait for more!

  4. Shawn says:

    ha!

I actually found Eva’s pose in this strip surprisingly sexy. Moreso when it’s larger. I’ll post something next week. Glad Ophelia’s seductive beauty came across.

  5. DaftSkunk says:

I find it funny how most of the times, Toby´s to large for the frame.^^
    Anyway, cool comic.

  6. Shawn says:

Typo fixed. Word bubbles spread out a bit nicer and the text centered a bit nicer. Art tweaked slightly. I’m not sure if anyone but me can notice the difference (aside from Thorton, whose clothes are significantly bloodier than they were in the first version), but it’s a bit more three dimensional. None of the dialogue has been changed.

And thanks DaftSkunk. That’s one of my favorite little jokes of the strip. :D (Also, that is a great user name.)

I am a little weirded out with the look of the top panel. Is it supposed to be Eva (I think so because of the hair and the color of the goggles / glasses)? Th face is too stretched (nose is far too long). It would have looked better if you had just zoomed in more and kept the same proportions as in panel #3.

  8. Shawn says:

It’s supposed to be kind of fish eyed. It’s meant to be a little disturbing and warped.

  9. Beardedgeek says:

    Well then, you succeeded :)

Anyway, keep up the good work and all that!

  10. Shawn says:

Hehehe. Since I just finished going on a photoshop tweaking rampage, I figured I’d add two extra lines to show the nose ending better.

But don’t think of this as a precedent!

The basic idea for the first panel is that it’s supposed to be way too close up, and kind of invasive. To sort of visually get across how Ophelia is feeling, at least on a subconscious level. That was the idea anyway, no idea if that came across.

  11. Beardedgeek says:

I like this better! But to archive what you wanted I think I would have zoomed in much more, basically filling the frame with the glasses. Not sure if it would have worked, but that’s my initial impulse, at least.
(Of course this would have required a different layout, probably (top panel made higher (thicker? Wider?))

  12. Zero says:

I like the look of the first panel, although I didn’t notice it on the first read, until it was mentioned in the comments. On a second look, it definitely has a “wide-angle lens” kind of feel about it. I think if you zoomed in more on the goggles, it would be harder to convey that and I wouldn’t have even seen it on the second look. But then again, I’m very guilty of reading comics too quickly and not slow down and appreciate the artwork of the individual panels.

Anyway, great comic so far, looking forward to more.

  13. Voltaggia says:

“We could really use someone to keep Thorton alive” made my day :D

  14. Falconire says:

Not a bad start so far. You put a bid on my site, and I liked your banner enough that I found my way over here. I’ll keep reading to see where this goes.

  15. Kelsa says:

I just found this comic and am so glad to be here at the beginning. Looks fantastic so far! I’m excited to see what happens next. I’m a super nerds so what I’d like to know what type of monetary system the Great Republic uses and what other countries not yet assimilated into the republic exist?

  16. Shawn says:

    Ha!

Marks are the official currency of the Great Republic. Other nations include Bralholme, Anverone, Coran, Poravo, The Free Islands, San Khotal, the Ironian City-States, and more. The nations of Kaul and Caslion were conquered during the Accordance War and are now part of the Great Republic.

Maybe next week I’ll post some details on the other nations.

  17. Devil of Roses says:

    E-Ticket time!

  18. Shawn says:

    Man what?
