0035: The Anarchist's Tale

0035: The Anarchist's Tale

First up, I have an Etsy shop now!  Only the 2 propaganda posters right now, but more asap.

Go! Buy stuff!  I need to eat!

Second, there are a lot of little hints and reveals in today’s comic.  Including one big one that I don’t think we’ve out and out said before but has been obliquely hinted at.  Speculate away!

More blogs this week, but the comic is late enough as it is.

  1. syhd says:

It’s sad that labor ‘bots are put out of work by faeblooded who are willing to work for less.

  2. Shawn says:

It’s presumably cheaper to pay a troll to do the work than it is to build and maintain clockbots.

  3. stormwell says:

Hm, so the city IS akin to a hive city from 40K…..well being multi-story.

  4. Hobo says:

Hmm now it seems the dude with the broken arm is the same as the one with the shotgun in strip 26. This means either he has an amazingly strong arm or he healed his broken arm, then most likely got it broken again due to the recoil from shooting a shotgun with one hand. If the second is true then Shawn; give the guy a break!

  5. Shawn says:

Nah, that’s just me accidentally drawing the same hair on two theoretically different guys.

  6. Hobo says:

I prefer my theory. Also it seems to me that they waited for MV2 to enter the building before they torched it, take out two birds with one stone. Man, half-baked theories are fun!

  7. Shawn says:

    Spilling the beans:

Clorencia City has 11 levels. Essentially, instead of moving out to the suburbs, the wealthy would just build on top of the old part of the city. They’ve now done this 10 times. The first level is home to the mines, the 11th is home to the wealthiest and most important people in the Great Republic.

The Bronze Gardens is on the 5th level, which is considered the top most level of Lower City, because it’s as high as the Lower Lift goes. (The Central Lift travels from the 4th to 8th levels, and the Upper Lift goes from the 8th to 11th. You’ll note a reference in Ophelia’s story about riding the Central Lift for the first time.)

We will eventually see a bit of the upper levels, as well as a good view of the city, but it will be a while.

  8. Shawn says:

    Hobo: ha!

So, the question remains: what kind of lunatic is MV#2, where he’d intimidate a bunch of anarchists with this plan: “OK, you guys come down and firebomb an old factory, meanwhile I’m going to go INSIDE that building and steal some stuff. Then I’ll jump out and instead of sneaking away I’ll dive head first in to the people that came to stop you.”

It will make sense one day.

  9. Victor says:

    Wait a minute….

Heeeeyyyy….Did we ever ask that question in game ?

  10. Shawn says:

    I think so.

  11. Shawn says:

There’s a conversation between Ophelia and Oliver that happened ages ago that will eventually be a comic, and sheds some insight on MV#2’s motivations a bit.

  12. jygro says:

Everyone knows, the best way to cover your tracks is to burn the building down. MV#@ just wanted some hotdogs and marshmellows….

  13. Wil K. says:

    So… what’s with the little dude? Halfling-esque?

  14. Shawn says:

Dwarf-esque faeblooded. He’s been in the comic since strip #23. You can see Oliver knocking him on his ass in strip #24.

  15. Voltaggia says:

I, for one, sympathise with the Ludite workers.

  16. m.s.Jackson says:

Again, awesome stuff. Sometimes I wish my games were as awesome as this comic is. As always good stuff, keep up the hard work.

  17. Timberwere says:

The plot definitely thickens. It just gets better and better.
And yes, one can definitely sympathize with the laid-off workers.

  18. Ematai says:

I like the posters you put up on the building. ;)

  19. Shawn says:

Thank you! I’m glad someone caught that. The irony was absolutely intentional (by me, not the corporate overlords.)

  20. Jericho says:

What I think may be important to note:
“…torched a factory JUST LIKE the one we used to work at.” (emphasis obviously added) Could that mean that the torched factory dealt with making the same sort of product as the workers’ old factory? Perchance, methinks.

Also, why would workers strike back at the system on a factory that is one level DOWN from their previous level? The harder strike would be one against factories ABOVE their own, not below it. Therefore, I think MV#2 was definitely after these documents for a very specific reason. Knowledge on what the schematics were would help with why he would want them.

    Cannot wait for more.

  21. Shawn says:

    Dun dun DUH!

  22. anaphysik says:

Grah! I hope we get to see MV#2 again soon. He was one of the coolest parts of the early comic, but hasn’t showed up since. One day, one day…

    • Shawn says:

I can assure you that Mysterious Villain #2 has a major role to play in the rest of our story. In fact, you may have seen him again a time or two already….

      • anaphysik says:

Of course! How could I not realize it was Gareth all along!

Wait… I wasn’t supposed to spoil that yet…*backs slowly into his time machine*

        • anaphysik says:

Perhaps more seriously, Salvaro – right colour hair, similar wrinkles above his eyes, and… “the hideout suppl[ies] him with a lot of the smoke.”

You know, smoke, smoke grenades, smoke, smoke grenades. Well, it’s something :\
