A: Alexander Lymos gets stuff done.
B: I’m pretty proud of that background in Panel 1.
See you fine folks next week!
Will update this with a blog post shortly, lots to ramble about and link to, but this page is late enough.
EDIT: Bloggery update! Here are a whole bunch of random videos and stuff that I love that you should see.
1: This Dystopian Taco Bell commercial, which is like the most Shawn thing ever made. It’s like if the Free Islands put out a video trying to get people to leave the Great Republic. I love everything about this, including how horribly it perverts the very concept of teenage punk rock revolt so they can sell fast food breakfast.
2: Here’s a video of the Teletubbies in black and white set to Joy Division, it’s pretty glorious:
3: I bought Song of the Sea last week, and it’s easily the best looking animated film I’ve ever seen in my life. I 100% recommend everyone buying a copy, if you like things that are gorgeous and magical and amazing.
4: I’ve been playing Transistor lately, and really digging it. The soundtrack in particular is fantastic, although I’m not a huge fan of the game’s combat system.
That’s about it for now. See you fine folks soon.
It was important to me to show our heroes stop for a minute to discuss following Brigitte, as opposed to just racing after her since the letter has a giant “!” floating over it. This conversation happened in the original game as well (albeit not word for word, this all happened years ago now). It’s interesting to think what I’d have done with the comic if our heroes had decided to call it a day, as by this point in the original campaign I was already drawing the comic.
News and stuff!
Justin Hubbell over at Orcs vs Feminism reviewed Clockworks yesterday, and had many nice things to say! Go take a look. (And give Orcs vs Feminism a read, it’s good stuff.)
Also, Matt Davis of Rock and Hill Studio did this awesome bit of fan art cover design for Clockworks! How cool is that?

That’s all for today! See you all next week!
And I’m back!
Yay Ophelia saving the day! That’s a pretty solid Plan B.
As mentioned in the Slight Delay post, I had something of a family emergency come up earlier this month. It’s still ongoing, so another missed week or two could come up at any time in the next few weeks. Just a heads up.
I’ve been pretty open over the years with my struggles with depression. (For the record, I’ve been diagnosed with Moderate Depression, Major Depression, AND ADHD. It’s a fun combo.) The good news is for the first time in many years I’m back on the brain medicine. I’m optimistic that this will be a long term positive change, and it’s one that’s sorely needed. I’ve been on meds for a week now, and while I’m by no means 100% I can already feel an improvement. It’s kind of like getting glasses, but for my brain. For the first month or two, things might be a little rocky in my brain/body as I get to play Side Effect Roulette, but in the long term I think this will be very good for my health and well being, and by extension the quality and schedule of the comic. So yay.
Page 0184 will be up later this week, probably Thursday.
This is all more or less straight from the original game, by the way. There was more of a trail of clues that lead to Julius, that I’ve left out here to speed things along, but Toby suggested that Brigitte might be the villain, and it was largely ignored/not heard. I don’t think his timing when gloating that he was right was quite this awkward in the original game, but it could have been.
New page up next week, where our heroes do something about that whole Bomb Strapped To Julius problem.
EDIT: Oh! Also! The Patreon is up to $99 a page (albeit with monthly maximums, so last month patrons were charged for 3 pages and I made about $200, which is still pretty dang awesome.) I’ve updated the Patreon rewards and goal. For everyone who kicks in $5 or more, I’m uploading a full high res copy of the photoshop file for at least one comic a month. And if we get to $150 a week, I’ll start posting RPG content to this here blog. New rules, detailed setting info, etc and so on. This will all get compiled eventually into the Savage Setting book, but I need to make the time to write it all first. Your cash dollars can help make that happen! And remember, you can pledge as little as $1 per page, with a monthly maximum of $1, so you won’t get overwhelmed if I make a ton of pages in a month.
Anyway, Patreon: patreon.com/sagaston
And that’s how Chapter 14 ends! With a naked guy tied to a chair with some sort of crazy alchemical bomb!
I don’t want to ramble too much, but let me just say that this is one of the pages that I’ve been looking forward to drawing and posting more or less since the comic began. For anyone checking this at work, this is also roughly as NSFW as I ever expect the comic to get. Also, yes this means Eva was totally wrong about Julius being the Gas Mask Ninja. I’ll give you all one guess who is.
Next week is the Chapter 15 title page, and ideally I’ll post page 0181 the week after that. (So Monday the 12th at the earliest.) I’m not going to take time off from making the comic, but I am going to write and layout the entire chapter before I start completing pages, as when I did that on Chapter 13 it was a HUGE help and it was definitely harder when I did not do that in Chapter 14. Chapter 15 is a pretty short chapter, so I can hopefully get it done in time to continue a normal weekly update schedule (with next week’s chapter cover.)
As we wrap up the year, I want to thank you all for sticking with me. I’m in this until the end, even if that takes me a million years. And I really appreciate all of you who are still reading and commenting, even after the delays and hiatuses. Thank you for being awesome, see you next year!
And we’re back! (Again!)
December was slower than I’d hoped, but I am finishing the chapter as planned before the end of the month! Page 0179 and 0180 were originally scripted as one page, and are meant to be read back to back. To minimize the wait between pages I put them together at the same time, and there will be two pages this week! 0180 will hopefully go up Tuesday, and if not it’ll go live on Wednesday 12/31. Page 0180 will also be the final page of this chapter, and I think you’ll all really dig it.
Also, over on Patreon I’ve posted a free print resolution download of the line art from the group shot in today’s page. It looks exactly like this, but much larger and suitable for printing and framing. If you’d like a full sized print resolution version, you can sign up over there to throw $1 or more at me.
Other than that, hope you had a happy holiday of your choosing and that you all have an awesome new year! See you very, very soon.
Comic is still on hiatus while I get my ducks in a row and my head on straight. In the mean time, I made this portrait of Ophelia that I’m pretty damn happy with. This outfit/hairstyle may show up in the comic at some point. I’m a big fan of the gradient hair. Here’s a web sized version:
The full size print is 11×14″, and if you’d like a copy you have a few options.
All $1 and above Patreon patrons are getting a copy of the high res file for free, as a thank you for all of your support. This also means that I should really get a comic out this month that I’ll charge you guys and gals for, or else I’m just giving free art away to people who want to give me money. Take the file to your favorite local print shop and print up one or a million copies. I suggest getting it printed on glossy cardstock.
Anyone who’s not a Patreon supporter can get a copy of the high res digital file for the low price of Pay What You Want. Toss me dollars via Paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll send you the file. If you want a copy at a different size, like iphone screen or whatever, just ask.
Anyone who wants a print but doesn’t want to get it printed yourself, I’ll make and send you one for $18. Shipping included in the US, if you’re out of the country shoot me an email and I’ll figure out your shipping cost. Just send it to the paypal address above.
New comic up before the end of the month, quite possibly two comics up before the end of the month.
We’re back! Sorry about that. You’ll be shocked to know it was the same old bugbears of mental health and real life and so on that intruded on the comic updates in June. Things are back on track now though.
You may remember Julius and Brigitte from Clockworks 0108. If not, click the clicky thing.
I’m super happy with this page, from the fashion to the environment etc. I think it’s pretty damn good looking. I didn’t get to do a couple of things I wanted to, but life goes on. New page next week!
Also, if you vote for Clockworks, you can see a super jumbo version of panel 3! Go do it!
I meant to finish this page last week, but for reasons that are I think obvious, the art on this one took a LOT longer than usual. I think it was worth it though. Some stuff:
So yeah, that’s Clorencia City, in all it’s 11 levels of glory. I always wanted to wait until this moment to show the full city, and I’m glad that I did, because I don’t think I could have achieved this level of madness a year or four ago.
Our heroes are from the 5th level, which is actually the 3rd level visible in this picture, as levels 1 and 2 are entirely below ground by now. The Bronze Gardens neighborhood is just to the right of the plume of smoke from the train, back underneath the plate for the 6th level and behind those tall buildings.
If you’d like to see a larger version of today’s page, just go vote for Clockworks on Top Webcomics.
Patreon Patrons will have access to a high res travel poser I’m going to create based on this image, that I hope to have up this week. Prints of it will also be for sale in the not too distant future.
I think that’s everything. If you’re in the States, happy Memorial Day. There will be two more pages up this week: guest comics featuring the return of Sir Wilhom Bloodbourne and his grand adventures. And then next week our heroes arrive in Jostrenet!
EDIT: Bonus pages delayed until next week. First one up Thursday, June 3rd, second one up Thursday June 5th.
