Behind The Scenes!
In Clockworks: the Game, this fight played out pretty much exactly like this. The clockbot shot Toby and grandpa, and as Toby ran over to it, it reloaded and Ophelia blasted the thing with 6 points of Bolt. Bolt, for those of you unaware, is grotesquely overpowered for a Novice level spell. It’s a bit balanced out because chances are a starting character can really do the big version once, but as we see here, once is typically all you need.
Further behind the scenes info: I’d originally planned this encounter to be the classic Dying Guy Shows Up, Gives Heroes The Plot Then Bites It. But then he survived, so Toby’s grandpa got to stick around and added a lot to the story, which you guys will get to see over the next few weeks and months.
We’re also approaching comic #50. I should do something special to celebrate reaching that mini milestone. Man, it’s amazing to think of the difference in my attitude towards this comic at this point and my attitude towards Chainmail Bikini at this point in it’s run.
By now in CB, I was getting really, really burnt out on it, and the whole comic was really feeling more like a job that didn’t pay anything than something fun that I might want to do for ages. (Disclaimer: I’ve said before, I heart Shamus, I think we ended up making something really funny and cool, and I heart the fans of CB. But man did I get burnt out on making it.) Clockworks on the other hand is still very much my baby. I’m excited to share the story with you guys, and excited to bring this world to comic readers for the next several years, and to RPG gamers as well. Chainmail Bikini only lasted 51 strips, so in addition to celebrating #50 as a mini milestone, I think I’ll celebrate #52, for learning from the past and outlasting myself.
Some fun twists in store on Tuesday, and maybe we’ll finally find out what grandpa was up to and why the stompy clockbot wanted to murder him.
